this is the first in a series on fun extensions I have on my chrome browser. this time out, the 8tracks boombox.

8tracks.com is in the blip.fm slash pandora camp of streaming music. however it's more like a mix tape than a programmable radio station (with 8 songs - get it?). another difference? you can upload your own music if you can't find it in the vaults (admittedly smaller than blip's). new love? make her/him/it an 8tracks of sappy stuff. in a contemplative mood? odds are you can find an hour's worth of unobtrusive soundtrack. I was psyched to find a chrome extension for 8tracks and even more psyched to find out how cool it is to use.
you can choose to open a tab for the 8tracks player or play in the background. (the "play mix here" option shown above is not very useful, since playback stops as soon as you click anywhere off the dropdown). if you choose background play and hear an awesome song by an artist you don't recognize, reopen the menu and click "see mix details" to open a tab with all the tracks shown.
a nice implementation of a great app. kudos to developer seewah cheng (no other info given or I'd share)
Zemanta helped me add links & pictures to this email. It can do it for you too.
